First description of the project:
After the Soviet Union fell in 1991, many Eastern European countries gained their independence, including Bielorussia. It was the first time the inhabitants of the former Soviet Republic Bielorussia had their own country with their own goverment and president. These aspects of the history of Bielorussia influenced their present life and creation of their identity.

We want to describe some of the aspects of the identity of citizens of Western Bielorussian city (Liwie in Polish) . We want to concentrate on the people involved in nationalistic movement. We choos Liwie because it seems to us interesting in order to its history and multiethnicity. The best time to do the fieldwork in Liwie would be, as far as we concerned, in the summer 2003 (ex. july, it would take a month). The reason why it is good to do reaserch in Bielorussia in the summer is the convenient weather as much as a good communication and people´s free time.
